Hazardous materials incidents often extend far beyond the initial emergency response. While responders focus on life safety, incident stabilization, and hazard control, the environmental impacts of these event can persist long after the scene is cleared.
This course explores the downstream environmental consequences of hazardous materials incidents, including soil and groundwater contamination, waste characterization, regulatory reporting requirements and long-term remediation considerations. Using real-world case examples, participants will examine how response decisions–such as product containment, runoff management, foam application, and debris handling–can signifcantly influence environmental outcomes, cleanup costs, and regulatory compliance.
Designed for fire service, HazMat teams, emergency managers, and environmental regulators, this class provides practical insight into how response actions intersect with environmental protection and post-incident enforcement, helping responders make informed decisions that reduce environmental impact and long-term liability
