Industrial Fire Fighting: Flammable Gas Emergencies
Scope/Overview:
When dealing directly with fires involving liquefied petroleum and other gases, "what does the industrial fire fighter need to know?" OSU's practical short course gets right to the point. The course examines physical and chemical properties of flammable gases and how they are likely handled and stored at the plant. A thorough discussion of potential hazards, size-up and incident management issues will prepare industry participants for a half-day or so of live fire training that follows. Utilizing OSU's LPG mobile trailer and props can make it happen at your facility (or ours if you prefer). Burn activities include: handling a storage tank with direct flame impingement, cooling over pressured tanks with a functioning relief valve, and controlling leaking valve/flange control manifolds. Also under live fire conditions, hose handling exercises, nozzle practice and use of master stream devices are included.
Course Length:
8 hours
Prerequisite(s):
Experience with SCBA and donning PPE (NFPA approved fire fighting turnout gear)
